Yemi Alade held a listening party for her forthcoming album “Mama Africa” (The Diary Of An African Woman) last night (February 18) in the United Kingdom.

The exclusive event was hosted at The Tunnel in London.

Earlier this week the singer revealed the artwork for her highly anticipated album, which is scheduled for release in March 2016.

The cover design was done by Onazi Ogaba for Unravel GFX while Alade's photograph was taken by Emmanuel Oyeleke.

The project is a follow up to the Effyzzie Music Group artist’s debut album “King of Queens” which was released October 2, 2014.

Rawiya Kameir, the reporter behind the stellar article for Davido's feature, reveals that Wizkid had called Davido's manager, Kamal Ajiboye, reveals saying:

"It’s Wizkid himself, asking whether Davido might be down for some sort of collaboration, an official end to the stalemate".

Chief Dele Momodu has expressed concern about the unhealthy effects of social media on Nigerian Youths
 

The publisher of Ovation Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu has expressed worries over the negative impact of social media on the reading culture of younger generation of Nigerians.

Momodu who expressed this worry at a public presentation of a historical book titled ‘The Nigerian Centaury’ also decried the preference of youths to profane music that lacks meaningful lyrics, while describing the book as a repository of information and knowledge about the first 100 years of the country. 

According to him, “Research has shown that the reading culture is shrinking at the speed of light. The advent of ubiquitous social media has virtually changed our reading habits and tastes. Today, frivolities have taken over and readers prefer junks to things of substance. We are all distracted by Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Periscope, Whatsapp, Skype, Blackberry, Linkedin, Viber, YouTube, Google Play, computer game, Messenger, Instachat, Facetime, Instavoice, InstaMessage, and so many other application on our smartphones, iPads and laptops. I plead guilty to being addicted to most of these inventions.'' 

“The biggest causality of these modern inventions is history, contemporary or ancient. Our school kids no longer know where their country is coming from and so cannot be bothered and wherever it is heading or headed. In our days at the then university of Ife, Africa’s most beautiful campus, our dreams were to become Vice Chancellors, Professors, Doctors, Lawyers, Pharmacists, Architects, Scientists or literati like Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe. Not anymore.''

“The kids of nowadays prefer to be rappers and singers of profanities and music without lyrics. Being a professor is no longer seen as a monumental achievement. What is spectacular is how many fans are downloading your songs on Apple Store and so on. We use to drop the names of accomplished authors we have read to impress the ladies. These days, you have to impress with the whiff of money in your pocket or the fame or notoriety of being a performing artiste.''

“Who cares if you are a stark illiterate who has never read any book, we are in the age of ignorance and the era of pay as you go. In our time, you had to combine education with whatever you wanted to do or become.” He explained.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Editor-In-Chief, Gaskia Media Limited, Mr. Dare Babarinsa explained that the book is aimed at filling the conspicuous vacuum in the nation’s history as the era of oral history had far gone.

He also observed that reading habits in Nigeria is declining in a geometric progression, adding that most newspapers and magazines in the country are circulating fewer copies of their publication compared to the past due to progressive drop in the culture of reading in the nation.

Babarinsa however challenged media owners to look inward with the view to reversing the ugly trend.

Yesterday (February 17) Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh gave birth to a baby boy in America.

The actress released maternity photos to go along with her announcement that she had delivered safely. Now a picture has surfaced of Tonto Dikeh in the Labour room.

The photo was likely taken before Tonto Dikeh gave birth. The actress has nicknamed her boy Baby X.

She released a press statement on her website as she announced the birth of her son.

"Today I experienced the Greatest Miracle known to man..I can’t begin to explain the joy I feel, it’s super awesome..I bless the Lord almighty for his protection/Safety and Strength and the birth of my Baby..", the new mother wrote.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has said that President Muhammadu Buhari lacks the mental capacity to solve Nigeria’s problems.

“It is worrisome that President Buhari does not have any economic team and there is no policy direction yet, despite spending close to nine months in office.”

“The implication of the President’s obvious lack of the required mental capacity to tackle the nation’s economic problems and the resultant effects are human right abuses, prices of goods and services skyrocketing, daily retrenchment of workers, folding up of businesses, States finding it difficult to pay workers salary and the Federal Government not being able to prepare common budget.”

“With President Buhari, Nigeria is definitely having a square peg in its round hole. Dollar has gone double since Dr Goodluck Jonathan left office, with US Dollar exchanging for N350 as at today, Foreign Reserve is declining on daily basis, Boko Haram insurgents have come back even stronger than they were when Buhari assumed office and Nigerians are now being made to pay more for electricity that is not available for them to use.”

“Most importantly, prices of foodstuffs, newsprint, medicine among others have gone over the roof. Should we still continue to attribute all these to Jonathan or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)?”

“Even former Central Bank Governor (CBN) and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is saying that President Buhari’s anti-corruption stance is totally inconsistent with the forex regime he supported and that the Federal Government Forex Policy encourages corruption and rent-seeking.”

“We are resolved to build a stable and prosperous Nigeria; a country that is inclusive of all her diverse peoples and a country that is at ease with itself. Building such a country will not be possible where corruption is pervasive,” the president said according to Daily Trust.

“Mindful of this, it has become necessary to wage a relentless war against the cancer of corruption. So long as corruption holds center stage in the affairs of Nigeria, the country will continue to suffer incalculable harm.

“You are witnesses to the preliminary findings that have emerged in the past few weeks from our investigations into corrupt practices in different sectors of Nigeria’s Public Service. I

“I will leave no stone unturned in the efforts to rid Nigeria of corruption. I must however, add that in doing this, we shall operate within the ambit of the law. In a similar fight in the past, and armed with the might of military muscle, I led a government that required persons presumed to be corrupt to prove their innocence.

“Today, as committed democrats, and in a culture of deepening democracy, we respect the law that presumes all persons innocent until they are proven to be guilty.

“Nigeria has no choice, nor can the country afford to be an island in itself. Against this backdrop therefore, since my assumption of office, I have demonstrated my commitment to interact with my colleagues in Nigeria’s neighbours and beyond. 

“This is consistent with the pledge that I made at my inauguration to steer the affairs of the country in a manner that will allow us to play the role that is expected of us,” he added.

Meanwhile, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has said that the kind of corruption which has occurred in Nigeria would be viewed as a crime against humanity in other countries of the world.

New studies have shown that men are twice as likely as women to get cancer of the mouth and throat linked to the human papillomavirus, or HPV, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, researchers say.

Yahoo reports that for men, the risk of HPV-driven cancers of the head and neck rise along with the number of oral sex partners, researchers said Friday at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting.

Nearly two out of three of these oral cancers in the United States and most western nations are caused by infection with the HPV  16 strain of the virus, and incidence of cancer is on the rise in recent years, said Gypsyamber D'Souza, who teaches epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland
 She said her research shows that youths are engaging in oral sex at increasingly young ages, compared to past generations.

"Our research shows that for men, the number of oral sex partners -- as that number increases, the risk of an oral HPV infection increases," she told reporters.

But with women, the number of sexual partners does not appear to raise the risk.

"Comparing men and women with the same number of sexual partners, a man is much more likely to become infected with oral HPV than a woman."

The reason may be that when women are first exposed to HPV vaginally, they mount an immune response that prevents them from getting an oral HPV infection, she said.But men do not seem to have equally robust immune responses.

"Men are not only more likely to be infected with oral HPV infection than women, but our research shows that once you become infected, men are less likely to clear this infection than women, further contributing for the cancer risk."

HPV infection is quite common, and most people clear the virus within a year or two, she said.

In some cases, however, HPV does not go away and can lead to cellular changes in the mouth and throat, which eventually become cancerous.

Referee shot dead during football match in Argentina

A referee, César Flores was shot dead during a football match in Argentina by a player he had sent off.

During the game, the referee sent off a young player for flooring another playerand the angry player shot the referee three times in Cordoba in central Argentina on Monday, February, 15.

The attacker also shot another footballer, Walter Zárate in the chest and is currently on the run. The other player that was shot however survived the gunshot woundsccording to local police the attacker had a gun in his backpack where he withdrew it from 20 minutes into the game to kill the Flores and shoot Zárate.

The 48-year Flores was shot three times which landed on his head, chest and neck.

"It all happened during the match," a police spokesman is quoted to say by Daily Mail.

"We don't know what happened with the referee but the player was angry and went to get his gun and killed him."

A board member of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has revealed that they have not been made aware of any change of date

here seems to be confusion on the exact day for the double header between Nigeria and Egypt coming up next month.

Nigeria will host Egypt in Kaduna in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with the return leg to be player a few days later.

The game initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday, March 23 according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) the game will now hold on Saturday, March 26.

“No official letters have been received yet regarding the Nigeria-Egypt game’s rescheduling and we’ll announce when we get confirmation,” Ehab Lehitah said on the EFA official website.

In US NY man arrested in fatal stabbing of homeless mother, children

Rebecca Cutler, 26, and her three children ages 2, 1 and 4 months, were all found stabbed on Wednesday at a Ramada Inn on Staten Island, where the city had been putting them up in lieu of a shelter.

New York City police said on Saturday they had arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing a homeless woman and her two infant children, one of whom was his daughter, at a hotel where they had been sheltering.

Michael Sykes, 23, of Brooklyn, was charged with three counts of first degree murder, as well as robbery, the NYPD said in a statement on Saturday night.

Rebecca Cutler, 26, and her three children ages 2, 1 and 4 months, were all found stabbed on Wednesday at a Ramada Inn on Staten Island, where the city had been putting them up in lieu of a shelter. Only the two-year-old survived the attack. Authorities said Sykes was the father of the youngest child.

The HKN singer who recently signed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment has revealed that he has a new song with the US rapper and his brother Sina Rambo.

Davido made the announcement via twitter, stating that he “Just did something crazy for T.I and Sina Rambo”.

 

The new collaboration sees Davido record another song with a US act after his 2015 exploits with Maybach rapper, Meek Mill, on the song ‘Fans mi’. Rapper T.I also has history with Nigerian group Psquare, with whom he recorded the single ‘Ejeajo’, contained in their “Double Trouble album.

Davido has also shared a video of the signing process for his new deal with Sony Music Entertainment.

The singer recently went public with news of a signed deal with Sony Music, with photos showing him put pen to paper on a deal.

Details of the deal were later released, with Sony Music Entertainment releasing a detailed press statement on the nature of the deal. Davido's deal leans towards music publishing, with the singer set to drop his sophomore studio album this year.

Kanye West Rapper's new album and fashion show draw 20 million viewers

More than 20 million viewers watched rapper and fashion designer Kanye West put his own twist on a New York Fashion Week runway show on Thursday as he debuted a new album and clothing collection at famed music venue Madison Square Garden.

West, his reality star wife Kim Kardashian and her family, including former NBA basketball player Lamar Odom, entered the Manhattan venue to cheers from the audience.

It is the first time Odom, the estranged husband of Khloe Kardashian, has been seen in public since he fell into a coma after using cocaine at a brothel last October and was hospitalized.

The event was streamed for free online via subscription music service Tidal, garnering around 20 million viewers according to the platform. Tidal, which touts hi-fidelity streaming, is co-owned by a group of music's top artists including West, Jay Z, Rihanna and Beyonce.

Goodluck Jonathan Ex-President’s ADC in trouble with EFCC over sharing of N10bn to PDP members

Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe was arrested and questioned by officers of the Military Police and Directorate of Military Intelligence in Lagos on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently interrogating the former Aide-De-Camp (ADC) of ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan over the alleged distribution of N10 billion in laundered funds to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe was initially arrested and questioned by officers of the Military Police and Directorate of Military Intelligence in Lagos on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Punch reports.

Adegbe is said to have been undergoing a National Defence College course in the United Kingdom but was recalled by the Army for the purpose of the investigation.

He was handed over to the EFCC along with seven other officers on Thursday, February 11.

“We spent hours to grill the ADC on how he got and disbursed the $47million which was delivered to him in about 17 suitcases. The money was diverted from the CBN to bribe or settle PDP delegates to adopt ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for second term,” a source told The Nation.

“We have asked him in the last 12 hours to account for how he came about the cash. He is also expected to provide the list of beneficiaries of the largesse. All the beneficiaries will be unveiled by the EFCC and they have to refund public funds,” the source added.

“The former ADC to President Goodluck Jonathan has been picked up by the Army. The man was recalled from a National Defence College course he is undergoing,” another source told Punch.

“He was arrested in Lagos and taken to the Abacha Barracks in Abuja on Wednesday. He was interrogated by some senior military officers.

“He was taken to the EFCC at noon in response to the allegations. Seven other army officers had also been taken to the commission,” the source added.

Corruption under Jonathan’s government has been a major subject of discussion in recent times after it was alleged that officials misappropriated funds meant for Nigeria’s war against Boko Haram.

The discovery was made by a special panel constituted by Buhari to investigate arms purchases in the country from 2007-2015.

Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki is at the fore of the investigations and is alleged to have supervised the alleged laundering of $2 billion funds meant for the procurement of arms.

He was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on December 1, 2015 and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the day after.

The suspected and confirmed cases of newborn with abnormally small heads linked to the Zika virus inBrazil had increased to 4,074 as of Jan. 30 from 3,718 a week earlier, the Brazilian Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

Of a total of 4,783 notified cases of the neurological condition called microcephaly reported since October, 709 were found to be negative, the ministry said in its weekly tally.
